CSV Import Options — Excel & CSV Data

This page covers the data settings for Excel/CSV importing in Bluecoins.

Access

Settings → Data → CSV Import (a standard ‘Spreadsheet Data’ option), then pick excel.csv.

Also there’s advanced — open Settings → CSV Import → Advanced for template-based import:

Template Use Columns
Standard simple: account, type, category Date, Content, Notes, Account, Category, Amount, Type
Advanced split by item/action, uses Category+Subcategory Includes Item, Payment Type, Due Date, Split

Transfers in advanced mode are represented by a Transfer row type (with From/To account columns for BB ‘Credit’ and BC ‘Debit’ in old apps), so importing from another finance app preserves the transfer.

Options

Before import, Bluecoins presents an options dialog:

  • Ignore amount sign — if your bank CSV shows expenses as negative, flip the sign automatically.
  • Encoding — detect/override charset (default UTF-8).
  • Date format — matching MM/dd/yyyy vs dd/MM/yyyy etc.

Errors

Invalid rows (unknown account/category, bad amount) are reported in the summary (as info, not aborts): each failure points to the row and the reason; fix the row and re-import.

Built-in mapping

The importer maps CSV headers: account, category, amount, date; the checkered row type convention (default expense if you leave type/empty). See Import skill.
